Ingredients

  • 3 cups of cooked ham, cubed
  • ½ cabbage head (medium sized), chopped in cubes
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 4 clove of garlic, chopped
  • 2 celery sticks, chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1 can roma beans (or red kidney beans)
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 litres water
  • ½ tbsp salt
  • ½ tbsp pepper

Variations to the Recipe

Alternatively, if using UNCOOKED ham (or pork loin), cook it in oil FIRST for a couple minutes before adding the onion and garlic to sautee.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups of pre-cooked ham cubed
  • ½ cabbage head medium sized, chopped in cubes
  • 1 can roma beans or red kidney beans
  • 2 medium onions chopped
  • 4 clove of garlic chopped
  • 2 celery sticks chopped
  • 2 carrots peeled and chopped
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 liters water
  • ½ tbsp salt
  • ½ tbsp pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a large pot on top of the stove, add oil with onions and garlic and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Add in the remaining vegetables with ½ tbsp salt and ½ tbsp pepper and continue to saute for 10 minutes to release flavors.
  • Add cooked ham to the pot along with the vegetables.
  • Add 1 litre water into the pot and cook for 30 minutes on low-medium heat, covered.
  • Add another 1 litre of water with tomato paste. Melt in the tomato paste.
  • Cook for another 30 minutes until the cabbage is soft.
  • Drain canned beans (not washed/rinsed) and add to the pot.
  • Combine 2 tbsp flour in 1 cup cold water in a separate bowl and then add to the pot to thicken the soup.
  • Cook for another 15 minutes.
