Tasty Mini Shrimp Puff Pastry

With it’s dense white meat and mild flavor, shrimp for many is a seafood favorite. It can be combined with a variety of different ingredients making unique, tasty dishes such as our simple and savory shrimp scampi. To make meal planning simpler, buy shrimp already cleaned, deveined and shelled.

Baked inside mini muffin tins, these shrimp puff pastries are the perfect bite-sized appetizer.

Making a Shrimp Puff Pastry Appetizer

Preheat the oven to 375F.

Preparing the Pastry

In a mixer, combine flour, butter and cream cheese.

Mix until dough forms a ball and cleans the sides of the bowl.

Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for 15 minutes.

Prepare the Filling

Add butter, onion and garlic and parsley to the pan on stove top. Saute for 2 to 3 minutes.

Add the shrimp, along with some salt and pepper and mix together. Saute for another 1 minute.

saute the shrimp puff pastry filling

Combine cool water with flour until you have a smooth milky mixture.

Add the flour water mixture to the pan, stir together a few times and put aside to cool before filling cups.

stirring the shrimp puff pastry filling

Assembling the Shrimp Puff Pastry

Remove dough from the fridge and shape dough into 2 dozen 1-inch balls. Place each in a paper-lined or greased miniature (1 ¾”-inch) muffin cup. Press dough on bottom and sides of each cup.

Getting the Scalloped Edge along Pastry

Alternatively, to get the scalloped edge on the mini pastries, remove the dough from the fridge and roll out.

Use a cookie cutter with a scalloped edge and cut out circle shapes. The cookie cutters need to be larger than the diameter of the muff cups.

Press the dough circles into the muffin cups.

Adding the Filling

Scoop 1 tbsp of the cool shrimp filling and place inside each cup.

Hi Judine. We used a scalloped cookie cutter to cut out the rounds similar to these on Amazon (our referal link): https://amzn.to/3fq3439.
      Kind regards,

    HI.

Are these good at room temp or do they need to be warm?

    Thank you.

      Hi Heidi.
They are better warm but can be at room temp. If you aren’t planning on serving right away we actually like them cooler, out of the fridge.
      Hope that helps!

Is there a gluten free flour that can be used to make this gluten free?
