Cooked home Style chicken wings on a plate with garnish.

While some like them spicy, others like them mild, and the rest of them like them either sweet or plain, it feels impossible to satisfy the varying taste buds of my family of six. To keep things simple, it’s A MUST to prepare chicken wings with a simple plain flour batter that all can enjoy.

Simply add your favourite hot, mild, sweet BBQ dipping sauce, make your own with this garlic parmesean dipping sauce recipe or serve them plain. The options are endless making this easy chicken wings recipe a totally customizable fan-favourite!

Ingredients Needed for Making Chicken Wings:

  • 2 lbs chicken wings
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • Seasoning such as Vegeta and black pepper

How Cook Chicken Wings:

To start, wash and salt the chicken wings.

Prepare the batter by working on half of the serving of wings at a time. Add half of the flour and seasoning mixture to a zip lock bag and mix together.

Combining flour, pepper and Vegeta seasoning on a plate.

Put half of the chicken wings inside, seal and shake together until wings are fully coated.

Coating the chicken wings with a flour and seasoning mixture.

Heat a deep dish frying pan with oil and place on medium heat. Ensure there is enough oil in the pan to just cover the wings. Do not cook on a high heat setting, otherwise, the chicken wings will not cook through to the center.

To be sure the oil is ready for frying, sprinkle some bread crumbs in the oil. If the oil sizzles, it’s ready for cooking.

Once oil is heated up, carefully add one coated wing at a time, shaking off the excess flour mixture. Place the wings into the hot oil and cook for 5 minutes one side. Then turn over to cook for another 5 minutes.

To check if the chicken is fully cooked, cut one piece open and if the juices are clear, the chicken is cooked through. Alternatively, you can use a thermometer.

Remove one wing at a time from the hot oil and place it into a bowl lined with a paper towel to absorb excess oil.  Repeat with the other lb of chicken wings and flour mixture.

Serve immediately along side some simple kale and strawberry salad, tasty romano bean salad or simple frozen perogies with bread crumbs .

This year, there were fewer places set, and there's much more food left-over. We connected through Messenger, WhatsApp and phone calls and watched mass on YouTube. Definitely different.⠀
⠀
Yet it was special. I got to play cards with my parents after not being together for months. The kids savoured opening their gifts (the ones that managed to arrive on time). We got a dumping of snow, which is a wonderful sight when you have no place to go and can just watch it from the cozy indoors.⠀
