Dough Ingredients
- You can find our recipe for how to make strudel pastry dough here or you can use a filo pastry instead of making pastry from scratch. You will need 3 sheets of filo dough to fill one baking sheet of strudel.
Cottage Cheese Filling Ingredients
- 1 container cottage cheese, approx 350ml, soft
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tbsp sour cream
How To Make Croatian Cottage Cheese Strudel
Start by preparing the pastry – refer to our post on how to make flaky strudel pastry from scratch and then prepare the cottage cheese filling as described below.
Once the pastry dough is prepared, mix the cottage cheese, egg, melted butter and sour cream together on a medium sized mixing bowl.
Spread the filling over the top of the greased dough, on the side closest to you, about ¼ of the pastry covered.
Transfer the rolled strudel on to a greased pan.
Place on the middle rack and bake at 390F for 23 minutes and check if golden in color. Remove from oven when ready.

Croatian Cottage Cheese Strudel Recipe
Ingredients
Dough
- Refer to the strudel pastry recipe.
- 3 sheets of filo pastry
Filling
- 1 container cottage cheese approx 350ml, soft
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tbsp sour cream
Instructions
- Mix all together by hand.
- Spread the filling over the top of the greased dough, on the side closest to you, about ¼ of the pastry covered.
- Transfer to a greased pan.
- Bake 390F for 23 minutes and check if golden color. Place on middle rack (all baked goods).
- Can sprinkle powdered sugar on top if it is not sweet enough.
