Homestyle Crispy Chicken Strips Recipe

With a crispy, savory coating, and tender meat these simple homemade crispy chicken strips are family-favorite in our home.

I think all would agree that when it comes to chicken strips, the crispier the better! Follow this recipe for making chicken strips using chicken breast, thighs or even deboned chicken legs.

Combining only a few ingredients to make this homestyle main dish makes it a great option for a quick weeknight meal.

Ingredients Needed

  • Chicken breast, thighs or deboned chicken legs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • Dash of salt and pepper
  • Vegetable or italian seasoning (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sunflower or canola oil

How to Make Crisy Breaded Chicken Strips

How to Prep Chicken

Remove skin and then slice chicken breast in three pieces. Tenderize gently with hammer. Continue with the remaining chicken pieces.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Put aside while preparing the crispy batter.

Preparing the Batter

In two shallow bowls: beat one egg and in the other bowl, mix 1/2 cup flour with 1 cup bread crumbs

Additionally, you can add vegetable or italian seasoning to the bread crumbs for more flavour.

Cooking the Chicken Strips using Stove Top

Add about 1/2 cup of Canola or Sunflower oil to a deep frying pan. You can use vegetable oil but the chicken tends to turns out a bit greasier in the end.

Set burner to a medium heat.

To be sure the oil is ready for frying, sprinkle some bread crumbs in the oil. If the oil sizzles, it’s ready for cooking.

Working one strip at a time, dip the chicken breast in egg, then dip it into the flour and bread crumb mixture. From there, carefully place the strip into the hot oil for cooking. Continue with the remaining strips until the pan is full.

Fry 4-5 minutes each side.

Remove from oil and place onto a paper towel lined plate to drain.

Serve chicken strips while hot and enjoy!

How to Make Oven-Baked Chicken Tenders

Alternatively, you can also make these crispy chicken strips in the oven.

Set the oven to 370F.

Place the breaded chicken strips in an oven-safe baking pan.

Bake the strips covered for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake another 10 minutes. Flip and bake 10 more minutes until golden brown.

Double check that the chicken it cooked thoroughly by inserting a meat thermometer.

When fully cooked, remove from oven and serve hot. Enjoy!
