Chinese Lemon Chicken Recipe

Serves well along side a simple white rice dish, this flavorful Chinese lemon chicken recipe is quick to make and easy to follow.

Lemon Chicken Chinese Style Recipe

You’ll love the flavors of this lemon chicken recipe using cuts of chicken breast along with a mix of soy sauce and lemon juice. Top off the dish with some seasame seeds, chopped chives and fresh lemon juice for added taste as well as color and it’s all set to enjoy!

An easy to make Chinese-style lemon chicken recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ lb chicken breast cut into cubes 2-3 chicken breast
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/4 c flour
  • 1/2 c cornstarch
  • Canola oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Chop chicken breast into cube sizes.
  • In a small bowl add the cubed chicken, soy sauce and toss to combine.
  • Set aside for 20 minutes to marinate.
  • In a baking pan, place the chicken with ½ cup flour and toss to combine.
  • In a small bowl add lemon juice, sugar, water, 2 tsp cornstarch and lemon zest. Mix to combine and then set aside for time being.
  • In a large skillet, add oil (about 3 cups) and heat on medium high.
  • Begin to add the chicken to the frying pan in batches.
  • Cook chicken until golden brown.
  • Once the chicken is cooked, transfer the pieces to a plate covered with a paper towel.
  • Continue until all the chicken is cooked.
  • When you finish all the chicken, drain the oil.
  • Place the skillet back on the stove, over medium to high heat.
  • Place the chicken back in the skillet and add the sauce.
  • Toss to combine.
  • Cook the chicken in the sauce, until thickened.

    Where does the flour come into play?

      I don’t know for sure, but I’m adding the flour after mixing in the cornstarch!

        Hi Amber, the chicken is tossed together with 1/2 cup flour, while the 2 tbsp corn starch is mixed seperately with the juice, sugar and water mixture. Hope that helps!
