Delicious Cookies Made from Pears

With two large pear trees growing in our backyard, we are always thinking of creative and delicious ways to use the ripe bartlett pears. Although we mostly make fresh homemade pear pies, canned pears or sweet pear juice, I love this cookie recipe option just as well.

The cookies are soft and chewy with just the right amount of natural sweetness.

If Using Juicy Pears

When preparing the dough, it if appears to be too runny, add a bit more flour, about 1 tbsp at a time until the consistency improves. But if the pears are not very juicy, then extra flour won’t be needed. Additionally, the dough can be placed in a resealable freezer-safe bag and stored in the freezer until you are ready to bake a fresh batch of cookies. Cookies always taste best right out of the oven so I love that this dough freezes well.

These are really good but I’m with Lynne below that mine baked up very flat and sticky. I doubled the recipe and used 3 cups brown sugar and 3.5 cups flour. I used fresh ripe pears.

I did refrigerate for about 1.5 hours since I had a larger amount of dough and all the action from the baking powder was gone by then.

I’ll try them again but try using softened, not melted butter, increase the flour to 4 cups, and not refrigerate them.

I followed your recipe to the letter. Something must be wrong. Please double check the amounts of each ingredient that you wrote down because they did NOT turn out well. The cookies are flat and runny. Was it because I used frozen fresh pears?

Hi Lynne. Thank you for leaving a comment. We will double check but looking at the recipe again, I'm wondering if it we mixed up the flour and brown sugar quantities. Our sincere apologies. The frozen pears will have more moisture but shouldn't make that much of a difference. -Jane
