Old Fashioned Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Delectable and crunchy, these old fashioned oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with a hint of coconut are a tasty treat.

  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar or extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ package of shortening
  • ½ cup shredded coconut
  • ½ cup chocolate chips semi sweet
  • 1 cup raisins optional
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional


  • Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Cut pieces of shortening and add to the dry ingredients until well combined.
  • If too dry and crumbly, add 1-4 tbsp for cold water.
  • Once combined, stir in the shredded coconut and chocolate chips.
  • Place in fridge for one hour to chill. Dough can also stay in fridge 2-3 weeks. 
  • Make tbsp size balls and place on parchment lined baking sheets, press down gently in the center.
  • Bake at 360F for 12 minutes.
