How to Make Sweet Bread Buns

Recipe for making a dozen deliciously tasty and mildly sweetened sweet bread buns.

Equipment

Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups flour
  • ¾ granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 cup warm milk hot first then let cool to warm temp

Instructions

Preparing the Dough

  • Combine 2 tsp yeast and 1 tsp sugar with 1/2 cup warm water. Let the yeast mixture sit while preparing the dough.
  • Using a Kitchen Stand mixer with the dough attachment, combine flour, sugar, eggs, salt, melted butter and warm milk.
  • Add yeast mixture to dough mixture and continue mixing until well blended, approximately 10 minutes.
  • Remove dough from the mixing bowl and place it on a floured surface.
  • Knead by hand for 3 minutes. The longer you mix, the better the dough will turn out.
  • Place dough in a large greased bowl and cover with a paper towel. Leave the dough to rise to double its size; this takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • Remove the dough and divide into equally sized buns, placing them in a greased muffin tray.
  • Cover and let rise for another ½ hour. In the meantime, preheat the oven to 350F.

Making the Glaze

  • Beat 1 tsp sugar and 1 egg together and generously brush the mixture over top of the buns.
  • Bake buns for 15-18 minutes. Check with a toothpick before removing to ensure buns cooked through.
