Delicious Apple Cinnamon Bun Recipe

A delicious take on the classic cinnamon bun recipe with the addition of chopped apples to compliment the sweetness of the buns.

  • 1 3/4 cup milk 3/4 cup warm; 1 cup cold
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 pack vanilla sugar
  • 2 tbsp instant quick rise yeast
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chopped apples for filling
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar for filling
  • 3 tbsp melted butter for filling
  • 2 tsp sugar for filling
  • 2 cups confectioner's sugar for glaze
  • 2 tsp milk for glaze
  • 3 tbsp soft butter for glaze
  • 2 tsp vanilla sugar for glaze


  • Mix together the warm milk, sugars and yeast in a small mixing bowl.
  • Mix together flour, salt and egg in a separate large mixing bowl.
  • Combine both mixtures together.
  • Add 1 cup milk and mix until you get a pizza dough consistency (for 7-10 minutes).
  • Let dough sit for 10 minutes covered then roll out flat on a floured surface.
  • Prepare filling: mix apples, brown sugar and butter in small bowl.
  • Spread over top of rolled dough.
  • Grease pan 9x9.
  • Begin rolling prepared dough widthwise tightly while stretching the dough out lengthwise gently. 
  • Cut 3-4” thick pieces along the entire length of the rolled dough and place one piece at a time into prepared pan.
  • Allow the dough to sit in the pan for 10 minutes while covered.
  • Bake at 375F for 35 minutes or until when golden brown.
  • Prepare glaze and spread over top when cinnamon buns cool.
